Welcome to our '99 Robinson Holiday Message!

As we enter the year 1900, we can look back on '99 as a very good year for the Robinson family! (get it, 1900!, Y2K joke!)

But seriously, lots of good news can be shared this year from the This part of the Robinson History Book.  Many of you have heard all the news, and this may just be boring prose sitting atop some pictures of our family.  Others will recognize only some of what's here, with the rest being new news.  The rest of you are virtual neophytes to Robinson'99, so for you, we hope you enjoy the following morsels of fact.  And to any of you who poo poo these holiday messages, poo on you!

DATELINE: Shady Grove Hospital, Gaithersburg

DORI YOUNG ROBINSON is welcomed to the Robinson Household as child #2.

After 9 months of hard work by Lynn's Metabolism, Dori Young Robinson came out as scheduled (by C-section that is), just to remind us what sleep deprivation is all about.  Dori has spent her first months developing just like every other girl her age, sprouting teeth, learning to crawl, cry, play, eat, and just generally be the party animal any infant girl should be. Dori is named for her two grandmothers, Now that Dori is making a lot more 'noise', it is becoming pretty obvious that the two Robinson daughters will most likely sound identical, making life just that much more interesting

FRED YOUNG ROBINSON is welcomed as a Staff Systems Engineer as career #2.

During the last week of pregnancy, Fred was long into a low key effort to consider leaving Fairchild after nearly 11 years and find a new job...and after a whirlwind 72 hour process from first contact to job offer, Fred had a new job.  Days after Dori's birth, Fred sat nervously in his boss' office with resignation letter in hand.  After 1 week off,1 week back at Fairchild, and one more week off (for helping with Dori and Emma) Fred returned to the working world in a position where he can finally use the skills from Systems Engineering Masters Degree he got from Johns Hopkins last year.  He has been heard to say (too many times if you ask Lynn) how much his new job is just like his 5 years worth of homework assignments!  The difference is that now he gets paid a bunch more to do it!  With a new job and associated salary increase for Fred, Lynn had less problem considering her new career...FULL TIME MOM!

With some trepidation, Lynn has overcome the obstacles and challenges of handling an infant and a toddler with flying colors.  She does a wonderful job feeding, entertaining, and providing the majority of the child care effort for our two little darlings.  Emma has started her long school career, going to 2 days of pre-school a week, and it only gets worse from here on.  Next year it is either 3 or 4 days a week. (all only a short time each day though).  Emma has wowed her teachers with her speech skills, leaving her teaching to warn us that her maturity should not be expected to match her language.  She is quite the 40 year old midget (in her father's image?).

Unfortunately, from a fathership standpoint, Fred spends nearly an hour each way commuting to the customer site in Bowie.  (Emma recently did pick Daddy to escort her to the Big Bird Show however!)  The customer is The Bureau of Census, and Fred supports LockMart's "Data Capture System 2000."  LM is the system integrator, putting together the hardware and software into a system that will scan your Year 2000 Census forms and turn them into electronic data for the governments many uses.  (So don't forget to fill out your form and BE COUNTED!)  With the systems deployed and final preparation underway, you might think Fred is worried about work, but their are opportunities that continue on the DCS 2000 system that look like they may provide work through 2001.  Someday Fred is really hoping to get an assignment in Gaithersburg to cut about 64 miles out of his daily commute (most of which pass through several of the nations top 10 traffic bottlenecks!), but nothing other than Census work is on the horizon.

FRED YOUNG ROBINSON welcomes Big TV #2.

(I know this is silly, but I wanted another dateline.)  The 25" TV Fred has had since 1988 (or so) finally started acting up (some prayers are answered), as it would come on all by itself, at full volume, with static, and the off nor volume switches would respond!  As it seemed possessed, it needed replacement. (it had other problems, but that would just sound like Fred complaining again...)  Fred did exercise common sense and restraint, only going for the 27" replacement (with more bells and whistles though, like 2 tuner PIP, finally!) instead of 32".

Enough Silliness...We hope you enjoy this mindless drivel, and enjoy the pictures!

HAPPY Y-2-K to ALL!
