The Boeing 747-400 has two Fairchild Controls built units, one in each of the outer engine pylons. The unit is called a TP85-1 Air Turbine Drive. It takes bleed air from the engine and uses it to drive an auxiliary hydraulic pump during take off and landing. · The model TP-85 for the Boeing B747 has been in production since late 1969 with over 4,450 units delivered to date. During a recent Boeing report period, the average reliability for all TP-85 Air Turbine Drives has demonstrated impressive mean-time-between-failure (MTBF) ratings. For an interesting look into the world of the 747, an enthusiast has set up the 747 Information Center.
FAA Repair Station Fairchild Controls' FAA certified repair station, operating under Certificate SW3R856L (according to publicly available FAA documentation), continues to support both the TP-85 and TP-25 products for repairs, upgrades and overhauls. During the past four years Fairchild Controls has achieved meaningful improvements in every operating metric. For example:
As a result of these improvements, the same period has seen Fairchild increase its TP-85 repair services. Fairchild now regularly repairs these units for many major airlines.
